Bhote Kosi

100 % Adrenaline Rush

About the Bhote Kosi

The origins of this roaring wall of white water give it it’s name, Bhote meaning from Tibet and Koshi meaning river.  The river is fed by the melting snows and glaciers of Mount Shisa Pangma, the worlds tenth highest mountain and creates one of the most dramatic and furious rivers to carve its way through Nepal’s mountains and rolling Himalayan foothills. The path of this river is the steepest in Nepal creating a virtual year round torrent that provides some of the most exciting rafting in the world.

Not so far from Kathmandu, this is a short but very very sweet trip that’s packed full of fun, action and endless white water.  The trip finishes near to the Last Resort, home to Bungee jumping, Canyoning and  the Canyon Swing, this gives you the chance to round out your rafting adventure with other activities that are going to keep the adrenaline flowing and your heart pounding.

Our Changing River : Bhote Kosi Landslide 2014

During the summer of 2014 there was a devastating landslide that backed up water and has shortened the main rafting section of this river.   Famous rapids like "The Great Wall" and "Fake Right Go Left" are no longer here.   This section is the world class section made famous by outside rafter and kayakers.   Each year as the monsoon rains come we watch closely to see how our rivers and rapids change and always alter our trips accordingly.   What remains is still a great section but definitely a bit shorter now.

RIVER ITINERARY
DAY 01: Early morning drive takes us to our put in point as we head north from Kathmandu towards Tibet.  The guides will go over a full safety briefing before heading out on the river.   The first day we raft the lower section of the steep technical river.  We will spend around 2-2.5 hours rafting this beautiful section.    The first day is a great day and preparation for tomorrow's bigger rapids.   In the evening we will camp giving us time to enjoy a meal while talking about the day.

DAY 02: We head up to the main section of the river.  Day 2 expect bigger steeper rapids on this great section that now runs around 1.5 hours.   After rafting we enjoy our last riverside lunch before heading back to Kathmandu.
